The building at Mühlendamm 66a is a prefabricated office building from the 1970s, located in a quiet courtyard setting, shielded from the four-lane main road. A conversion and repurposing into a hotel for the Adagio hotel chain with approximately 148 rooms was planned. The existing curtain wall façade on the front and rear sides of the building was removed and replaced with a new façade made of prefabricated cross-laminated timber elements with an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS). The façade facing Mühlendamm is structured horizontally through the uniform rhythm of the floor-to-ceiling hotel windows, the alternating protruding and recessed horizontal façade segments, and the color-accentuated 3D plaster moldings.
