About me

Architectural photography

Daniel Sumesgutner

My passion for architectural photography quickly turned into my profession – and this fascination is still undiminished today!

I work for architects, agencies and other companies in the fields of architecture, real estate and industry, both for small offices and large players in the sector.

I design well-considered photographs and create productions that reflect the right balance between overview and detail as well as documentation and interpretation.

My many years of experience enable me to gain a precise overview of the architectural and spatial conditions for all projects and to find suitable photographic solutions.

Feel free to contact me – I look forward to working with you!

My first camera was a surprising gift. Now it was there and beautiful to boot. I immediately began to work intensively with her and look for motifs.

Started studying photo design at the FH Dortmund and Polytechnic Manchester. My photography was initially journalistic and documentary in nature. But that was about to change.

I was testing a new black and white film, and by chance I chose this building in Dortmund-Barop (REFA Informatik Center) by Ulrich Drahtler and created this motif.
I liked it, and so did the architect - that's how I sold my first architectural picture!

I became officially self-employed during my studies, the next clients came, I was able to make a living from architectural photography and invest in equipment - what more could you want!
The day after the diploma ceremony (concert halls in Europe, here Musikverein Vienna) I photographed a waste incineration plant, the job can be really varied!

I needed a lot of patience for my first job abroad in the north of Norway (Sámi Parliament). A lot of sunshine was required for the calendar production, but it was very scarce.

I photographed the first jobs in Asia, here in China still analog on 4x5 inch with the large-format camera.
To date, I have been able to photograph projects in over 35 countries and gain a wealth of experience.

First professional drone missions. I love the immense expansion of the visual language through the new perspectives.
